The Association of Independent Personal Search Agents is a non-profit-making representative body and support group for search companies across the UK.
They provide a range of services designed to educate, inform and support their members, including dedicated website and telephone helpline. Other benefits include a range of discounted training courses, Insurance Packages and a nationwide member to member network for out of area searches.
Members are regulated by the Industry leading IPSA code of practice and supply regulated searches to conveyancing professionals nationwide.
They are in regular communication with the department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), as well as other industry bodies including Council for Mortgage Lenders (CML), Land Registry, Law Society etc.
IPSA have advised Central Government on access to Local Authority data as members of the Conveyancing and Property Searches Working Group.
They were also heavily involved in the campaign under the Environmental Information Regulations to open up access to Local Authority data via the Information Commissioner (ICO)
This has resulted in 58 (and counting) decisions in favour of the private search companies and three successful Information Tribunals.
